Workshop Brief

This workshop will walk young creative career interested individuals through all of the exciting opportunities available in Visual Communications and questions that you and parents may have regarding Communication Design which includes graphic design, advertising art direction, film, illustration, typographical design and multi media. The workshop with focus on the “Business of Art” and open your eyes to the profession and the discipline and skills required.

Selecting the most appropriate (best college or university) that provides the best educational opportunities will be a major component as well as explain the creative process of idea development, brainstorm, creative methodologies, how to work with clients, target audience, as well as expose workshop participants to understand logo design, poster design, typography, advertising art direction, illustration, interactive media and the printing process plus much more.

Ideal Workshop Candidate

People thinking about switching into creative careers, young high school seniors, freshman or sophomores at community colleges or universities or people changing majors, or parents needing guidance in advising their children who are interested in the arts, OR student counselors and advisers who are seeking knowledge about business/art careers and want to learn about the Visual Communications industry and potential careers.

Instructor Bio

Paul Booth received his MFA from the University of North Texas in Communication Design in 2004, and a BFA from Texas Tech University in Graphic Design. After working several years for large Dallas design firms, Mr. Booth opened Paul Booth Designs, which he continues to own and operate in Durango, CO. He currently teaches at Fort Lewis College after teaching at Central Washington University. He has presented papers in Texas, Italy and the United Kingdom, and has been published by PRINT Magazine. His design efforts currently focus on environmental issues.
